Description

The Leuchars Chess Set is named after William Leuchars, the prestigious retailer who first sold John Jaques chess sets from his exclusive shop in Piccadilly in 1849. This distinctive design, known as the Leuchars Knight, features a simplified version of the iconic Cook Knight, characterised by its elegant, plain styling.

Historically, this particular design was very rare, with only a limited number of sets sold exclusively through Leuchars' establishment. Originally crafted in luxurious ivory combinations and fine boxwood, the sets became highly sought after by chess enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Included is a vintage-styled chessboard, complementing the historical charm and authenticity of the chessmen. The set comes housed in a beautifully crafted solid wood box, ensuring protection and display-worthy elegance.

Specifications:

  • King Height: 3.5 inches
  • 34 Chessmen (including additional queens)
  • Rules Booklet
  • Cleaning Cloth
  • Solid Wood Chess Box
  • Three-Year Warranty
Important Notice:
Please note: As we use natural wood for our chess pieces, boards, and storage boxes, slight shade and tone variations are to be expected. These natural characteristics are a hallmark of genuine craftsmanship and add to the uniqueness and beauty of each set. The product images shown on our website are representative and taken from specific production batches—actual colours and wood tones may vary slightly from batch to batch.
